It’s the weekend, so let’s talk about some of the best things to read online when there’s only one story dominating the headlines. We can call it "politics is downstream of culture" weekend.
First, there’s Jacobin with a piece from the day before the election that covers the kind of message testing the Democrats seem unable to tackle, due to the neoliberal blinders they insist on wearing: "If Harris Losses Today, This Is Why".
Then, one of the first and best things I read when I woke up Wednesday morning: Lisa Lerer in The New York Times with her piece, "America Hires a Strongman".
Followed by the aptly titled "It's The Neoliberalism, Stupid" in Rolling Stone.
Following those are three great reads that dig into what I suspect is happening: the complete breakdown of a shared meta-culture. People are now living in fundamentally different media ecosystems, and those without a strong ideological foundation are often stranded in the wilderness of conservative media.
